The o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

As a material, EPDM (EPR) is specified for strong performance in outdoor and exposed installations, good electrical insulating characteristics. This material stands up to phosphate ester hydraulic fluids, ozone, UV and weathering, and brake fluid. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 300°F (148.9°C). It should not be specified for service in aromatic hydrocarbons or mineral oil-based lubricants.
