The o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

Expect good resistance to water and steam, ozone, UV and weathering, and brake fluid. That behavior comes from the compound itself: EPDM (EPR) delivers outstanding weather, ozone and sunlight resistance, very good flexibility at low temperature. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 300°F (148.9°C). It should not be specified for service in aromatic hydrocarbons or mineral oil-based lubricants.
