An o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

This material stands up to aromatic hydrocarbons, many acids, and petroleum oils and fuels. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Viton® (FKM) offers outstanding high-temperature capability and very low compression set at elevated temperature. Published continuous service range is -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). Verify compatibility before use with ketones and esters or hot water and steam.

It sees regular use in automotive fuel systems, high-temperature process equipment, and chemical processing.
