An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

As a material, Viton® (FKM) is widely chosen for outstanding high-temperature capability, excellent resistance to compression set and permeation. The compound resists aromatic hydrocarbons, many acids, and aggressive chemicals. Service temperature is rated from -15°F (-26.1°C) through 400°F (204.4°C).
