An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

Viton® (FKM) is widely chosen for long service life in hot, chemically aggressive environments and outstanding high-temperature capability. The material holds up against engine and transmission fluids, many acids, and aromatic hydrocarbons. Continuous operating temperature is published at -15°F (-26.1°C) to 400°F (204.4°C). It is not the right choice where amines or hot water and steam are present.

It sees regular use in aerospace, automotive fuel systems, and high-temperature process equipment.
