An o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

The material holds up against petroleum oils, ozone and weathering, and extreme cold. Fluorosilicone (FVMQ) is widely chosen for silicone's low-temperature flexibility combined with fuel resistance, excellent ozone and UV stability. Service temperature is rated from -80°F (-62.2°C) through 350°F (176.7°C). It is not the right choice where hydrazine or brake fluids are present.

Typical settings include high-altitude equipment, military ground vehicles, and aviation fuel systems.
