An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

It resists ozone and weathering, chlorinated solvents, and petroleum oils. Fluorosilicone (FVMQ) is specified for a very wide service temperature range and silicone's low-temperature flexibility combined with fuel resistance. Published continuous service range is -80°F (-62.2°C) to 350°F (176.7°C). It is not the right choice where high-temperature dynamic service or hydrazine are present.
