It provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

Fluorosilicone (FVMQ) is specified here for silicone's low-temperature flexibility combined with fuel resistance and standard choice for static aerospace fuel system seals. This material stands up to ozone and weathering, chlorinated solvents, and extreme cold. Rated temperature range runs from -80°F (-62.2°C) to 350°F (176.7°C) in continuous service. It should not be specified for service in high-temperature dynamic service or hydrazine.
