In service, this o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

As a material, Buna-N (Nitrile) is valued for low compression set under sustained load and an economical choice for high-volume maintenance programs. It resists hydraulic fluids, greases and lubricants, and propane and butane. Continuous operating temperature is published at -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). It is not the right choice where automotive brake fluid or ketones are present.
