In service, this o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) is widely chosen for long service life in refrigerant and oilfield duty, the oil resistance of nitrile with substantially better heat capability. It resists heat and oxidation, modern refrigerants, and petroleum oils and fuels. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 325°F (162.8°C). Exposure to chlorinated hydrocarbons or esters will shorten service life.
