The o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) is specified here for strong resistance to rapid gas decompression and oil resistance of nitrile with substantially better heat capability. The material holds up against ozone and weathering, sour gas and amine inhibitors, and heat and oxidation. The material carries a published service range of -40°F (-40°C) to 325°F (162.8°C).
