An o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

This material stands up to petroleum oils and fuels, heat and oxidation, and sour gas and amine inhibitors. HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) is known for long service life in refrigerant and oilfield duty, strong resistance to rapid gas decompression. Continuous operating temperature is published at -40°F (-40°C) to 325°F (162.8°C). It is not the right choice where chlorinated hydrocarbons or strong oxidizing acids are present.

Common environments for this compound include engine timing systems, oilfield and downhole equipment, and heavy-duty powertrain.
