An o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

As a material, HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) is specified for the oil resistance of nitrile with substantially better heat capability and strong resistance to rapid gas decompression. Expect good resistance to sour gas and amine inhibitors, modern refrigerants, and ozone and weathering. Published continuous service range is -40°F (-40°C) to 325°F (162.8°C). It is not the right choice where strong oxidizing acids or chlorinated hydrocarbons are present.
