An o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

As a material, HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile) is known for the oil resistance of nitrile with substantially better heat capability, improved ozone and weathering resistance over standard nitrile. The compound resists heat and oxidation, modern refrigerants, and ozone and weathering. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 325°F (162.8°C). It is not the right choice where ketones or chlorinated hydrocarbons are present.
