The o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

The compound resists dry heat, weathering, and ozone and UV exposure. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Silicone is known for physiological inertness and low toxicity, flexibility that holds at very low temperatures. Published continuous service range is -80°F (-62.2°C) to 450°F (232.2°C).

The compound is metal detectable for HACCP and foreign-body control programs. Typical settings include medical devices, ovens and heated equipment, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
