An o-ring compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

The material holds up against many alcohols, greases and lubricants, and propane and butane. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Buna-N (Nitrile) delivers the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer, reliable performance in both static and dynamic service. Service temperature is rated from -40°F (-40°C) through 250°F (121.1°C).
