The H5X31 is a black Buna-N (Nitrile) 70 Shore A O-Ring measuring an inside diameter of 31 mm (1.22 in), a cross section of 5 mm (0.197 in), and an outside diameter of 41 mm (1.61 in). This o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

As a material, Buna-N (Nitrile) is widely chosen for an economical choice for high-volume maintenance programs and the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer. Expect good resistance to hydraulic fluids, propane and butane, and many alcohols. The material carries a published service range of -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). It is not the right choice where ketones or strong acids are present.
