Ordered as TFE231, this is an AS568-231 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D O-Ring built to an inside diameter of 2.609 in (66.27 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 2.887 in (73.33 mm). The o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and excellent dielectric properties. The material holds up against steam, strong acids and bases, and oxidizing media. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery call for a different compound.
