APG stocks the TFE281, an AS568-281 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D O-Ring with an inside diameter of 14.984 in (380.59 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 15.262 in (387.65 mm). An o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for near-universal chemical inertness and excellent dielectric properties. This material stands up to steam, strong acids and bases, and oxidizing media. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.

It sees regular use in aggressive-media pipelines, food and beverage, and laboratory equipment.
