This o-ring is supplied in AS568-316 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 0.85 in (21.59 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.27 in (32.26 mm), catalogued under part number TFE316. It compresses into its gland to block fluid or gas migration across a joint.

It resists nearly all industrial chemicals, oxidizing media, and steam. PTFE (Teflon) is known for excellent dielectric properties and near-universal chemical inertness. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Applications involving elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.
