The TFE472 is an AS568-472 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D O-Ring built to an inside diameter of 22.94 in (582.68 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 23.49 in (596.65 mm). This o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

The compound resists steam, oxidizing media, and nearly all industrial chemicals. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) delivers non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and a very wide continuous service temperature range. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals call for a different compound.
