A quad-ring delivers lower friction and better sealing stability than a comparable round-section o-ring.

This material stands up to greases and lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and many alcohols. Buna-N (Nitrile) offers the most widely specified general-purpose sealing elastomer, strong abrasion and tear resistance. The material carries a published service range of -40°F (-40°C) to 250°F (121.1°C). Applications involving ketones or strong acids call for a different compound.
