The o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

It resists dry heat, many oxidizing chemicals, and extreme heat and cold. Silicone offers physiological inertness and low toxicity, very good compression set resistance across its range. Service temperature is rated from -80°F (-62.2°C) through 450°F (232.2°C). It should not be specified for service in concentrated acids or abrasive dynamic service.
