An o-ring seats in a machined groove and forms a leak-tight barrier when compressed between two mating surfaces.

Silicone delivers very good compression set resistance across its range, physiological inertness and low toxicity. Expect good resistance to dry heat, extreme heat and cold, and weathering. Continuous operating temperature is published at -80°F (-62.2°C) to 450°F (232.2°C). It is not the right choice where concentrated acids or hydrocarbon fuels and oils are present.
