Silicone is specified here for very good compression set resistance across its range and exceptionally wide service temperature range. It resists ozone and UV exposure, dry heat, and weathering. Published continuous service range is -80°F (-62.2°C) to 450°F (232.2°C). Applications involving abrasive dynamic service or concentrated acids call for a different compound.
