Part number S70MD338 is an AS568-338 red Silicone 70 Shore A O-Ring built to an inside diameter of 3.1 in (78.74 mm), a cross section of 0.21 in (5.33 mm), and an outside diameter of 3.52 in (89.41 mm). An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

The material holds up against ozone and UV exposure, extreme heat and cold, and many oxidizing chemicals. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Silicone is specified for very good compression set resistance across its range and an exceptionally wide service temperature range. Published continuous service range is -80°F (-62.2°C) to 450°F (232.2°C). It should not be specified for service in abrasive dynamic service or steam above its rated range.

The compound is metal detectable for HACCP and foreign-body control programs. It sees regular use in electronics and electrical enclosures, medical devices, and ovens and heated equipment.
