Silicone is widely chosen for excellent electrical insulating properties and very good compression set resistance across its range. This material stands up to weathering, extreme heat and cold, and dry heat. Service temperature is rated from -80°F (-62.2°C) through 450°F (232.2°C). Applications involving hydrocarbon fuels and oils or abrasive dynamic service call for a different compound.
