An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

As a material, Silicone is valued for excellent electrical insulating properties and an exceptionally wide service temperature range. The compound resists weathering, many oxidizing chemicals, and ozone and UV exposure. Service temperature is rated from -80°F (-62.2°C) through 450°F (232.2°C). Exposure to abrasive dynamic service or hydrocarbon fuels and oils will shorten service life.
