An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

Silicone is valued for flexibility that holds at very low temperatures and an exceptionally wide service temperature range. This material stands up to weathering, ozone and UV exposure, and dry heat. Service temperature is rated from -80°F (-62.2°C) through 450°F (232.2°C). Exposure to concentrated acids or steam above its rated range will shorten service life.
