An o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

The compound resists extreme heat and cold, many oxidizing chemicals, and weathering. Silicone is specified for flexibility that holds at very low temperatures, physiological inertness and low toxicity. Published continuous service range is -80°F (-62.2°C) to 450°F (232.2°C). It is not the right choice where hydrocarbon fuels and oils or concentrated acids are present.
