It remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

Silicone is specified here for physiological inertness and low toxicity, very good compression set resistance across its range. The compound resists extreme heat and cold, ozone and UV exposure, and weathering. Published continuous service range is -80°F (-62.2°C) to 450°F (232.2°C).
