The o-ring remains the most cost-effective sealing element available for pressurized assemblies.

As a material, PTFE-Encapsulated Viton® is known for excellent resistance to permeation and contamination, a non-stick sealing surface that resists fouling. The compound resists strong acids and solvents, steam, and aggressive oxidizers. Rated temperature range runs from -75°F (-59.4°C) to 400°F (204.4°C) in continuous service. Exposure to service requiring tight-radius dynamic flexing or installation over sharp edges without care will shorten service life.

It sees regular use in food and beverage, aggressive-media valves and pumps, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
