This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-017 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 0.676 in (17.17 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.816 in (20.73 mm), catalogued under part number TSP017. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is valued for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and excellent dielectric properties. It resists oxidizing media, strong acids and bases, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Rated temperature range runs from -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C) in continuous service. Verify compatibility before use with elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals.
