Part number TSP217 is an AS568-217 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 1.171 in (29.74 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.449 in (36.8 mm). A back-up ring extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

The material holds up against steam, nearly all industrial chemicals, and solvents. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) is specified for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Exposure to molten alkali metals or elemental fluorine at temperature will shorten service life.

Typical settings include laboratory equipment, chemical processing, and pharmaceutical and biotech.
