This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-440 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D with an inside diameter of 6.725 in (170.82 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 7.275 in (184.79 mm), catalogued under part number TSP440. It bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for near-universal chemical inertness and excellent dielectric properties. This material stands up to oxidizing media, steam, and solvents. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It is not the right choice where elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals are present.

It sees regular use in semiconductor fabrication, laboratory equipment, and pharmaceutical and biotech.
