APG stocks the TST015, an AS568-015 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 0.551 in (14 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.691 in (17.55 mm). A back-up ring installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

The compound resists strong acids and bases, oxidizing media, and nearly all industrial chemicals. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) is widely chosen for non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Exposure to service requiring elastic recovery or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.
