This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-016 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 0.614 in (15.6 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 0.754 in (19.15 mm), catalogued under part number TST016. It extends o-ring service life by supporting the seal against extrusion under high pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) delivers near-universal chemical inertness and a very wide continuous service temperature range. It resists oxidizing media, nearly all industrial chemicals, and steam. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Exposure to molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery will shorten service life.

It sees regular use in pharmaceutical and biotech, laboratory equipment, and aggressive-media pipelines.
