This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-024 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D built to an inside diameter of 1.114 in (28.3 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 1.254 in (31.85 mm), catalogued under part number TST024. It allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

It resists oxidizing media, nearly all industrial chemicals, and solvents. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) offers a very wide continuous service temperature range and non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It is not the right choice where elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals are present.

It sees regular use in laboratory equipment, aggressive-media pipelines, and food and beverage.
