38 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

Part number TST038SO is an AS568-038 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 2.614 in (66.4 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 2.754 in (69.95 mm). A back-up ring allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for very wide continuous service temperature range and near-universal chemical inertness. The material holds up against nearly all industrial chemicals, strong acids and bases, and oxidizing media. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). It should not be specified for service in service requiring elastic recovery or elemental fluorine at temperature.
