This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-049 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D supplied with an inside diameter of 4.989 in (126.72 mm), a cross section of 0.07 in (1.78 mm), and an outside diameter of 5.129 in (130.28 mm), catalogued under part number TST049SO. It installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.
It resists nearly all industrial chemicals, solvents, and strong acids and bases. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) is specified for a very wide continuous service temperature range and one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). It should not be specified for service in molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery.
Typical settings include semiconductor fabrication, pharmaceutical and biotech, and laboratory equipment.
Reference part number TST049SO when ordering; the item is sold individually. Confirm chemical compatibility, pressure and temperature against your own application requirements before installing. Not finding the exact configuration you need? APG cross-references from prints, samples and competitor part numbers.
