160 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

Part number TST160SO is an AS568-160 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring with an inside diameter of 5.237 in (133.02 mm), a cross section of 0.103 in (2.62 mm), and an outside diameter of 5.443 in (138.25 mm). A back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified here for one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid and near-universal chemical inertness. The compound resists strong acids and bases, solvents, and nearly all industrial chemicals. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 500°F (260°C). Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.
