256 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

Part number TST256SO is an AS568-256 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring built to an inside diameter of 5.734 in (145.64 mm), a cross section of 0.139 in (3.53 mm), and an outside diameter of 6.012 in (152.7 mm). A back-up ring allows a standard o-ring to operate at higher pressures than it could unsupported.

The compound resists strong acids and bases, nearly all industrial chemicals, and solvents. That behavior comes from the compound itself: PTFE (Teflon) offers near-universal chemical inertness and a very wide continuous service temperature range. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Exposure to elemental fluorine at temperature or molten alkali metals will shorten service life.
