446 PTFE SOLID BACKUP RING FDA

This back-up ring is supplied in AS568-446 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D with an inside diameter of 8.475 in (215.27 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 9.025 in (229.24 mm), catalogued under part number TST446SO. It installs on the low-pressure side of an o-ring to prevent extrusion into the clearance gap at elevated pressure.

As a material, PTFE (Teflon) is valued for a very wide continuous service temperature range and non-stick, non-contaminating surface characteristics. This material stands up to oxidizing media, nearly all industrial chemicals, and strong acids and bases. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C).
