APG stocks the TST459SO, an AS568-459 white PTFE (Teflon) 55 Shore D Back-Up Ring supplied with an inside diameter of 14.975 in (380.37 mm), a cross section of 0.275 in (6.99 mm), and an outside diameter of 15.525 in (394.34 mm). A back-up ring bridges the extrusion gap so the primary seal holds its shape under load.

PTFE (Teflon) is specified for excellent dielectric properties and a very wide continuous service temperature range. It resists steam, nearly all industrial chemicals, and strong acids and bases. Published continuous service range is -65°F (-53.9°C) to 500°F (260°C). Applications involving molten alkali metals or service requiring elastic recovery call for a different compound.
