The o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

The material holds up against ozone, impact and shock loading, and petroleum oils. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Polyurethane (AU/EU) is specified for long wear life in dynamic reciprocating service, very high tensile strength and load capacity. Service temperature is rated from -65°F (-53.9°C) through 200°F (93.3°C). It is not the right choice where acids and bases or ketones are present.
