An o-ring provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

The material holds up against ozone, petroleum oils, and abrasion and wear. That behavior comes from the compound itself: Polyurethane (AU/EU) is known for outstanding extrusion resistance at elevated pressure and exceptional abrasion resistance. Continuous operating temperature is published at -65°F (-53.9°C) to 200°F (93.3°C).
