It provides a reliable static or dynamic seal by deforming into its gland under assembly load.

EPDM (EPR) offers strong performance in outdoor and exposed installations, good electrical insulating characteristics. Expect good resistance to dilute acids and alkalis, water and steam, and ozone, UV and weathering. The material carries a published service range of -65°F (-53.9°C) to 300°F (148.9°C). Exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons or mineral oil-based lubricants will shorten service life.
